Masjien Forest

We’re excited to announce the growing Masjien Forest in Congo, a result of our partnership with Go Forest, a dynamic organization founded in 2020 by Sarah Parent and Antoine Geerinckx, with a mission to plant trees, restore ecosystems, and inspire sustainable action across the globe.

Go Forest collaborates with experienced reforestation partners, combining nearly 15 years of expertise with fresh enthusiasm and a vision for a greener future. Their holistic approach focuses on accelerating nature recovery, ensuring that the right trees are planted and nurtured in the right places, and supporting local communities along the way.

That’s why we’re proud to have a structural collaboration with Go Forest in which we balance our daily activities with an offset and have been planting trees monthly since January 2024.

Together with Go Forest, we’re committed to creating a long-term impact by restoring biodiversity, promoting climate resilience, and empowering people to invest in nature. Our partnership aims to make sustainability more accessible for companies, communities, and individuals alike, inspiring them to take meaningful action and give back to our planet.

Our Masjien Forest is located in Ingung Kapia, in the Democratic Republic of Congo. We plant native species on degraded soils to restore biodiversity and create local jobs. Our reforestation program aims to prevent desertification and reduce pressure on DR Congo’s old-growth jungle through sustainable forest management and selective logging, primarily planting local tree species mixed with Acacia.

This project in Ingung Kapia supports 9 UN Sustainable Development Goals.

Join us on this journey as we work hand-in-hand with Go Forest to grow a healthier, greener world, one tree at a time.

Did you know you can also buy a voucher to gift a tree from our non vending Masjien to nurture and grow our Masjien Forest?   And not only that, all proceeds made through our non vending Masjien is used to plant trees. So everybody can participate and create change together!

We keep track of our impact with an impact board and yearly receive a blockchain certificate that represents our offset by a sustainability checker based in Leuven.

Deforestation and Reforestation

Deforestation has significant and far-reaching effects on our planet. It leads to the loss of biodiversity as countless species lose their natural habitats, pushing many toward extinction. The removal of trees also disrupts the carbon cycle, contributing to increased carbon dioxide levels in the atmosphere and accelerating climate change. Additionally, deforestation affects local communities, reducing access to vital resources such as clean water and fertile soil, and increasing the risk of flooding and soil erosion. The impact of deforestation is a global concern, affecting ecosystems, climate stability, and human well-being.

Reforestation plays a crucial role in counteracting the damaging effects of deforestation. By planting trees, we can restore lost habitats, protect biodiversity, and revive ecosystems that have been degraded. Reforestation helps sequester carbon dioxide, mitigating climate change by balancing the carbon cycle. It also stabilizes soil, prevents erosion, and enhances water quality, benefiting both local communities and wildlife. Additionally, reforestation creates jobs, supports sustainable livelihoods, and empowers communities to manage their natural resources responsibly.

Contact us to learn more about the effects of de- and reforestation during a Climate Fresk Workshop, which Masjien is certified for, or where to find or non vending Masjien today so we can plant trees together!

Ann co-founder of WEB32, Belgians web3 and metaverse movement

WEB32 is where the Web3 movement in Belgium begins and grows.

At WEB32 everyone comes together to contribute, share knowledge, and network. We offer a yearly conference on the impact of the new internet on business strategies.  WEB32, the largest Belgian Web3 movement, brings speakers from both within and outside Belgium exploring the potential of blockchain, NFTs and the metaverse.

WEB32 started as a community of digital natives, software developers, consultants, creative professionals, and other enthusiasts around blockchain and NFTs.
Ann kickstarted this movement, together with Gilles Den Haese and Thomas Lambert early 2022. Today, WEB32 is still entirely driven from the bottom up by an enthusiastic team.

The events serve as inspiring and informative moments to discover tangible applications of Web3, such as digital ownership, decentralization, next-level privacy, the metaverse, and AI. Beyond the hype, towards real value!

Why Web3?

Web3 is a vital tool for addressing the many new societal challenges of our disruptive era. WEB32 aims to drive the adoption of Web3 in Belgium by inspiring businesses and entrepreneurial minds with the possibilities of blockchain and related applications, such as NFTs and the metaverse.

WEB32 offers tangible examples of what Web3 can mean and how we need to rethink principles like ownership, privacy, and validation, and their potential impact on new business models. Web3 does not necessarily mean throwing out your current strategy; instead, it can add a valuable extra dimension. Key business pillars such as customer service, loyalty, and sustainability can be significantly enhanced with Web3.

Who is WEB32 for?

WEB32 offers valuable insights for innovation managers, C-level executives, marketing and communication managers, and entrepreneurs in the creative industry looking to monetize or expand their work. It’s the perfect opportunity for any curious entrepreneur to learn about blockchain technology through practical examples, gain an inspiring glimpse into the future, and network.

Students and alumni are also welcomed. This young generation is bound to encounter Web3 in their careers or may already be actively involved. WEB32 is, therefore, the perfect chance to learn about Web3, network with entrepreneurs and other professionals, and kickstart their career!

Jasmien creator MoMu Fashion & Sustainability Walk

Jasmien created the Fashion & Sustainability Walk for MoMu Antwerp.
As from September 2022 you’re able to book the MoMu Fashion & Sustainability Walk. A guided tour that illuminates the many facets of sustainability across the Antwerp fashion scene. MoMu Antwerp asked Jasmien to map out this walk with them. This walk does not show where you can shop ecologically or which designers and labels are sustainable. We do want to show how principles of sustainability are ubiquitous and of all times and how to make people look at fashion from a new perspective.
The tour lasts two hours and takes you along the beautiful streets of Antwerp’s fashion quarter. You can book the MoMu Fashion & Sustainability Walk in group. Individual visitors can join the tours every second Saturday of the month.

Jasmien co-author childrens’ book ‘Do pants grow on trees?’

Childrens’ book by Jasmien Wynants & Judith Thomas (Lannoo, 2023)

How is your T-shirt made? What is the impact on the planet? And can it be better?

Did you know:

– your T-shirt has already traveled the world before it ends up in your closet?
– it takes the same amount of water to make one T-shirt as you drink from birth to age seven?
– clothing is made from trees, plants, cows, sheep and even oil?
– an entire truck of clothing is burned or dumped every second?

Learn more about it and discover how it can be improved.

The book is written for everyone interested in this topic, from 8 to 108.

Our recommendation? Read it together with your children, we promise you’ll learn at least one new thing about the fashion industry or what you can do as a fashion lover.

Ann partnerships manager for Future Front Row, the digital fashion show

FUTURE FRONT ROW, the holographic catwalk you don’t want to miss

As our lives become increasingly digitized, many people are already crafting a digital representation of themselves online.  FUTURE FRONT ROW has the mission to illuminate the potentials of this virtual space through an immersive digital fashion runway in a physical setting.

By deliberately designing Future Front Row to mirror the hallmarks of iconic high fashion runways, we’re making a bold statement: digital fashion doesn’t just belong to the future; it’s claiming its rightful place alongside traditional couture.

Our mission is about more than aesthetics; it’s about accessibility. FUTURE FRONT ROW democratizes digital fashion, pulling it from niche corners and placing it front and center for all to experience. By providing a stage for digital fashion designers, many of whom have never had the opportunity to present their work in a tangible setting, we’re ensuring a more inclusive and diverse fashion future.

It’s a visual and experiential testament to where the future of fashion is headed, as the lines between our online personas and physical selves continue to blur.

The narrative of FUTURE FRONT ROW is one of evolution and revolution. As society pivots from tangible to intangible modes of self-expression, fashion — an age-old medium of identity — is poised for digital transformation. Through the digital runway, attendees witness the journey of fashion from its material roots to its digital future. The significance lies in its mirror to our evolving identities: as we craft digital representations of ourselves online, fashion evolves alongside to cater to these new digital personas.

As a sustainable alternative to traditional fashion shows, it can also offer a more inlcusive and creative view on fashion today, opening up to a broad audience.   At Felix Meritis we welcomed over 700 visitors in september ’23 to see the show by Augmented Weaving, Avolve, Dress X, The Fabricant, Polygon Dressing, Code Couture, Suzanne Vos & MUTANI.

Jasmien co-author book chapter: How Technology Influences the Circular Economy

Jasmien co-wrote a chapter titled ‘How Technology Influences the Circular Economy’ in the book ‘Technology-Driven Sustainability, Innovation in the Fashion Supply Chain’ (Palgrave, 2019) – with Nina Bürklin.

Over the past decades, the fashion industry has become one of the most resource-intensive industries in the world. Throughout the whole value chain, from production to usage as well as with regard to disposal of clothing, there’s a huge impact. Nevertheless, advancements in modern technology have served to develop innovative solutions to enhance a circular economy leading to waste reduction, design for longevity and service offerings.

The study at hand is the first to closely investigate the concept of a circular economy based on a holistic seven-stage framework. Combining conceptual foundations with multiple case studies, it contributes to a further understanding of sustainable development through technological innovations.

This chapter contains a multiple case study approach based on the seven-stage Close The Loop framework established in 2015 (resources, design, production, retail, consumption, end of life and systems thinking/sustainable entrepreneurship). Thus, each phase in the cyclical process is discussed conceptually and further illustrated through best practices from a database of more than 350 innovative cases in fashion. Lastly, concrete managerial implications for hands-on strategies to be implemented in fashion are derived.

Results depict the current status quo of technology in fashion and propose the implication of diverse innovations to foster a circular economy. These can range from 3D-virtual prototyping in order to save resources up to block chain systems to increase transparency along the whole value chain. Further findings include the use of technology to create a stronger bond between consumers and their clothing to avoid quick disposal of their items.
